The Chūka Ichiban! manga inspired a 52-episode television anime in 1997-1998.

The original manga Shin Chūka Ichiban! is serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine. The story follows Mao, a young man who journeys across 19th century China in an effort to perfect his culinary skills and to inherit the title of Master Chef from his late mother.

The Shin Chūka Ichiban! TV anime is directed by Itsuro Kawasaki and features animation production by NAS with cooperation by Production I.G. The release date for the new series has not yet been revealed.
