Ever since the popular trading card game anime made it to our TV screens, fans have dreamed to play the game like how the characters play it in the show: with holograms, and now, thanks to a new HoloLens project, we might be able to experience it in the near future.

General Heed, a.k.a. Generalkidd on YouTube, just revealed a new HoloLens projects that brings the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game to reality by using Microsoft’s augmented reality headset. The project has already entered the pre-alpha stage. Check out the cool footage below:

“Ever since I was little, I was quite fascinated about the prospect of being able to play Yugioh  in real life with actual holograms,” writes General Heed (who goes by Generalkidd on YouTube). “Well, thanks to Microsoft’s HoloLens, that is now finally possible. This is just a very early version of this game and there’s a lot of work that still needs to be done. If anyone wants to help out with either the programming or 3D modeling side, let me know. In the meantime, enjoy!”

The holograms look static, but this is an impressive start. Hopefully, Konami or any strong game developer would pick up this Yu-Gi-Oh! project and enhance it. With Pokemon GOdominating the augmented reality industry, I don’t see why this idea won’t become a hit. I hope someone could also create a HoloLens project for Magic: The Gathering.

So do you think this is a good idea?
