Studio Ghibli Digital Painter Job

If you’ve ever dreamed of working for legendary anime film company Studio Ghibli, now could be your chance. From My Neighbor Totoro to Spirited Away, the Japanese studio has produced some of the most famous and iconic anime films of all time. In fact, Studio Ghibli’s acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki loves his job so much, that he recently came out of retirement to make one last feature film—and he needs the help of skilled digital painters to complete it.

The exciting job listing was first posted back in 2017, but Studio Ghibli itself recently re-posted it. The company is looking for a new team of skilled digital painters who have experience in 2-D animation software, OpenToonz or RETAS, and Photoshop. The job is open to anyone, so long as they’re over 20 years old, willing to move to Japan by May 31, 2019, and have a good understanding of the Japanese language. Applicants are asked to submit a resume, a cover letter, and a portfolio of any previous animations they’ve worked on.

If successful, the new Studio Ghibli employees will start from October 1, 2019. They’ll work Monday to Friday in the Studio Ghibli headquarters alongside Miyazaki himself. They’ll also be paid upwards of 250,000 yen (US$2,232) per month, and have a minimum 18-month employment contract.

Have you always dreamed of working for Studio Ghibli? You can apply to join their digital painting team via the company’s website now. Deadline is June 14, 2019.
