TOP 10 Best Captain-First Mate Duo In One Piece

10 – BELLAMY & SARKIES (BELLAMY PIRATES)

Bellamy the Hyena is the former captain of the Bellamy Pirates.
Like their captain, the Bellamy Pirates were attempting to usher in a “New Age” wherein pirates wouldn’t have to search for dream treasures like the One Piece and could instead focus on the treasures present all around them, hoarding them from weaker pirates. As a captain, Bellamy was looking for strong pirates to join his cause. All of his crew members admired him and called him a big-time rookie.
The first mate Sarkies was proud of his captain and confident in his abilities. Even after Bellamy’s defeat, Sarkies still believed Luffy’s victory was by sheer luck, stubbornly refusing to accept that someone could be stronger than his captain.

9 – BOO & SAI (HAPPO NAVY)

Sai is a member of the Chinjao Family and the 13th leader of the Happo Navy. His brother Boo is the vice-leader of the Happo Navy.
Sai is very attached to his brother, which was seen when Boo was defeated by the Funk Brothers. Because of his Hasshoken training, Sai is not supposed to have a deep attachment to Boo when in battle to prevent him from getting distracted but does have enough pride to avenge any of his fallen comrades, including his brother. Boo also acts as a guide for Sai similar to the relationship between Sai and Chinjao as Boo had to hold back his brother from attacking Luffy.

8 – KURO & JANGO (BLACK CAT PIRATES)

The Black Cat Pirates is an East Blue pirate crew formerly headed by Kuro.
Kuro had come to the conclusion his crew were nothing but puppets; that pirates were barbarians that stole from people out of greed and nothing more, and that they were buffoons who were nothing without his guidance and direction, and that his skill is wasted helping them to plot. He would willingly sacrifice them all and by the time his plan was ready he had already long decided they should all die. This was proven to be true, as Kuro killed and injured many of his crew members.
Originally, Jango, the former first mate and hypnotist of the crew, was loyal to his captain Kuro, as Jango was willing to take over captaincy of the crew, and return three years to instigate the plan, despite seemingly knowing of his captain’s darker personality. Kuro on the other hand viewed Jango simply as a buffoon like the rest of his crew and thought that he needed to die to preserve the secrecy of his agenda.

7 – BUGGY & MOHJI (BUGGY PIRATES)

Buggy the Star Clown is the captain of the Buggy Pirates. Their current goal is finding Captain John’s legendary treasure.
Mohji the Beast Tamer is the first mate of the Buggy Pirates. He is a pet tamer, usually accompanied by his pet lion Richie. Due to his actions, he can be considered the secondary antagonist of the Orange Town Arc, and a minor antagonist in the Loguetown Arc.

6 – JINBE & ALADINE (SUN PIRATES)

Jinbe is the former captain of the Sun Pirates.
His dream is to fulfull his former captain Fisher Tiger’s dying wish of coexistence and equality between humans and fishman and continues to live his life in the hopes of seeing that dream’s completion.
Aladine became one of Jinbe’s closest friends after becoming the second captain of the Sun Pirates. Like Jinbe, he also understood Fisher Tiger’s will. He is also understanding of Jinbe’s reasons for not stopping Arlong. One of the reasons why Jinbe joined the Shichibukai was to allow Aladine, along with other members of the Sun Pirates who choose to, to return to Fishman Island as a government pardon. In return, Jinbe seems to greatly respect Aladine as he would make him his vice captain at some point in their travels.
In the Whole Cake Island Arc, Aladine and the rest of the Sun Pirates completely supported Jinbe’s decision to join the Straw Hat Pirates as it is clearly something he wants to do.

5 – EUSTASS KID & KILLER (KID PIRATES)

The Kid Pirates are an infamous and notable rookie pirate crew introduced during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc led by Eustass Kid.
Kid seems to have a good relationship with his crewmembers that have been revealed.
The first mate of the crew Killer comes across as both mildly arrogant and level-headed; in the latter case, probably more so than their captain. Killer is more knowledgeable than his captain in terms of historical facts, as shown when he informed Kid the meaning of the Ox Bell.
After the timeskip, Killer has been shown to be much calmer than his captain, advising him to be polite when meeting with his fellow Supernovas, and was then able to prevent a fight between him and Scratchmen Apoo from escalating while reminding them of the purpose of their meeting. He also seems to be more reasonable than his captain, which is in contrast to his name, as he tried to reason things out rather than immediately trying to start a fight.

4 – SHANKS & BENN BECKMAN (RED  HAIR PIRATES)

The Red Hair Pirates are an infamous and powerful pirate crew ruling in the New World, led by their captain, Red-Haired Shanks, who is one of the Yonko.
The Red Hair Pirates are the main influences of both Luffy (Shanks inspired Luffy) and Usopp (wants to become a brave warrior of the sea like his father Yasopp) journeys.
Benn Beckman is the first mate of the crew and the right-hand man of Shanks. He appears to be a lot less fun-loving and a lot more relaxed than the other members of the crew are, acting as the level-headed member. He seems amazed at the actions of his captain, such as panicking when Luffy was taken or getting even more drunk while already hungover when Mihawk brought news of Luffy’s new bounty. He is one of the three members of the crew who always appear with Shanks.

3 – MONKEY D. LUFFY & RORONOA ZORO (STRAW HAT PIRATES)

Monkey D. Luffy is the founder and captain of the increasingly infamous and powerful Straw Hat Pirates.
The first crew mate to join the Straw Hat Pirates was Zoro, a bounty hunter who decided to serve under Luffy as a pirate after he saved his life from a dishonorable death at the hands of a corrupt Marine, but vowed if Luffy ever got in the way of his ambition, he will kill him. Later in the series, they have developed a very close bond which is underlined by their tremendous amount of trust and respect for one another, to the point where Zoro is willing to die for Luffy’s dream to become Pirate King and sacrifice his own dream of becoming the world’s greatest swordsman.

2 – EDWARD NEWGATE “WHITEBEARD” & MARCO THE PHOENIX (WHITEBEARD PIRATES)

The Whitebeard Pirates were formerly one of the strongest pirate crews in the world, as their late captain, Whitebeard, was the only pirate to have ever been a match for the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, in a fight.
Whitebeard considered every single member of his crew, as well as his subordinate crews, his “sons”. His strong love for his crew and subordinate crews traced all the way back to before he even had a crew, when he stated that the one thing he wanted more than anything was a family.
Marco had a very strong bond with Whitebeard. So strong was their bond, it seemed very similar to a captain and first mate relationship, much like the one of Gol D. Roger and Silvers Rayleigh. This can be indicated by Marco’s position as 1st division commander. Also, during the Battle of Marineford, Marco stood at Whitebeard’s side almost the entire time in the early stages of the battle. Marco was also the first and only crewmate who rushed to Whitebeard’s aid, after Whitebeard was stabbed by Squard and during his battle with Akainu. Later, Marco attempted to assist his captain in fighting Blackbeard, but was ultimately ordered to stand down. Marco, along with his crewmates, considered Whitebeard their “father” much in the same way the great pirate considered them his “children”.

1 – GOL D. ROGER & SILVERS RAYLEIGH (ROGER PIRATES)

The Roger Pirates were the pirate crew of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and were the only crew to ever reach Raftel, the end of the New World in the Grand Line.
Silvers Rayleigh, also known as the “Dark King”, is the former first mate of the crew, known as the “Right Hand of the Pirate King”.
Rayleigh had an incredibly close relationship with Roger, to the point where he was called ‘partner’ by the Pirate King. After the man gave himself to the Marines, Rayleigh was unable to bring himself to directly witness the execution of his closest friend. He toasted a drink to the man with both tears and laughter as the blades passed, and downed a glass as his first act in the Great Age of Piracy, the Age of Dreams.
