“Your Lie in April” Manga Gets Live-Action Film Adaptation in 2016

It is confirmed that a live-action film adaptation of Naoshi Arakawa’s Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso/Your Lie in April music-themed school manga is in the works for a 2016 release. 17-year-old Suzu Hirose, who is also cast as Chihaya Ayase in the upcoming two Chihayafuru live-action films, will play the heroine Kaori Miyazono, alongside 20-year-old Kento Yamazaki as the male protagonist Kousei Arima.

 

The manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine from May 2011 to March 2015, then compiled in 11 tankobon volumes. A-1 Pictures produced a 22-episode TV anime series aired from October 2014 to March 2015. Though the two main characters are junior high school students in the original manga story, due to the actors’ real age, they are changed to second grade high school students in the film.

 

53-year-old Takehiko Shinjo, well-known for his live-action film adaptation works of popular shoujo

mange series, such as Ai Yazawa’s Paradise Kiss (2011) and Ryo Ikuemi’s Kiyoku Yawaku (2013), is

attached to direct with the script by Yukari Tatsui (Gamera the Brave, Strawberry Night).
