KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World

KonoSuba is a great example of why you should never mess with sanctity. The series is all about a Japanese high school student named Kazuma who is transported to a fantasy world after dying in a car accident. Kazuma quickly joins up with a group of other fantasy characters and together, the KonoSuba team, they become adventurers in search of treasures and magical items in this new world. The problem is, the series is absolutely riddled with religious and cultural appropriation and comedy fails. In one scene, Kazuma and a fellow adventurer discuss how they are trying to locate a treasure that they can use to pay off their mortgage. As the camera zooms out to show the two of them standing next to each other, one of the other adventurers tries to explain what a mortgage is to them. In another scene, a character tries to describe the Hindu god Shiva to the KonoSuba group, only to call him a “cool molester.” The series has received a lot of backlash ever since its release, and has even been removed from Netflix in several countries.
