Netflix announced the release date of the the first film in the Godzilla anime trilogy, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters.
The film is set to premiere in the streaming service worldwide on January 17th and will be available in Japanese and seven other dubbed languages, and in 23 subtitled languages.

​In the film, humans are continuously fighting Godzilla and the other kaiju, and as they experience continuous defeat, they decided that it is time to leave Earth. Using an A.I., select few humans were chosen to leave the planet with the spaceship Aratrum to head for Tau Cetus e, a planet beyond the distance of 11.9 light-year. However, due to the planet’s environmental condition when they arrived to it 20 years later were far beyond what they have predicted, and is considered to be not habitable by human beings.

One of those humans is Haruo, who saw his parents killed by Godzilla when he was 4 years old, and has only thing in mind for 20 years, to return to Earth and defeat the Godzilla. With their ship deteriorating, Haruo and his group of Earth Returnists became the majority and determines to head back to Earth via a dangerious long-distance hyperspace navigation. However, they returned to an Earth 20,000 years in the future and is now ruled by Godzilla. At the end, can humanity reclaim Earth?

The film is animated by POLYGON PICTURES is directed by Kobun Shizuno (Fist of the North Star: The Legend of Kenshiro, various Detective Conan films) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Ajin, Knights of Sidonia) with Nitroplus’s Gen Urobuchi (Kamen Rider Gaim, Fate/Zero) credited for the film’s concept and screenplay.
