Anime Series Like Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World

For years, war has raged between the Empire and the realm of witches, Nebulis. On the battlefield, a talented young knight is tasked with killing the princess of Nebulis, but he is taken by her beauty and she taken by his honor.

The stupidest thing about this series is its indecisive title. Otherwise, it is really quite cute if you don’t expect anything mind-blowing from it. For more anime recommendations like Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World, then head on down below.

For Fans of Love Across the Battlefield

romeo x juliet anime

Romeo x Juliet

On the floating continent of Neo Varona, the Montague family murdered every member of the Capulet family to seize control, with the exception of their daughter who was hidden away. Fourteen years later, Juliet has a fateful encounter with the young Romeo Montague that sets off a whirlwind of star-crossed love.

The comparison is an easy one. Our Last Crusade is like a Romeo and Juliet story while Romeo X Juliet is a fantasy retelling of the classic tale.

Lord Marksman and Vanadis

In fantasy Europe, war is brewing between the countries. One of the War Maidens known as Vanadis has recently launched an attack on neighboring rival Brune. Young archer and Earl in Brune, Tigre, has his army decimated at her hands. However in a twist of fate, she spares him and takes him on as a servant.

Both series are about two opposing nations where the leaders on opposite sides fall in love and join forces. However, what you will mostly find in common with these shows is they can be pretty good romantic action fantasy anime if you don’t go in expecting the most cerebral plots. They’re funny, they’re a little sweet, and they have some interesting fights.

maoyu-anime

Maoyu – Hero and Archenemy

After fifteen years of warfare with the demon world, the Hero is unsatisfied with their advance and rushes forward to the Demon Queens Castle. There he not only finds a beautiful woman that is the queen, but she needs his help. To his surprise, she offers a way to not only help his country, but hers as well. Together, they join forces to make that dream a reality.

Both series feature two nations at war, one lead by humans and one lead by supernatural. In Maoyu, it is demons while it is witches in Our Last Crusade. Within this war, a hero sent to kill the leader of the supernatural faction actually ends up falling in love with them. The difference is that Maoyu is more political intrigue than flashy action.

For Fans of Stupid Powerful main Characters That Other Characters All Panty Drop For

The Misfit of Demon King Academy

After countless wars, Demon Lord Anos Voldigoad decided he would reincarnated into the future. However, 2,000 years later, he has found that his descendants have become too used to peace and their magical powers weakened because of it. Reincarnated with his full strength, the sheer magical power of Anos makes him a misfit at the Demon King Academy charged with educating the next generation in waning magical prowess.

Both series follow wildly overpowered young men whose sheer power attracts himself a harem. While Our Last Crusade focuses more on the feelings between two enemies, The Misfit of Demon Academy does have an actual plot. What they most have in common is those cute little flirting moments, though.

Sword Art Online

With the aid of NerveGear technology, video game players can now experience their playable worlds like never before – in virtual reality. For Kazuto Kirigaya, his game of choice is Sword Art Online. After beta testing the game, he logs into the launch and finds himself, as well as ten thousand other players, trapped in the game world.

You know when he busted out those two swords in the first episode the inevitable comparison to Sword Art was coming, ya’ll. Really, Iska is a less interesting Kirito with similarly overpowered abilities and a habit of being attractive to literally every female.

The Legend of Legendary Heroes

Ryner Lute is a talented mage with the power of Alpha Stigma, special eyes that can analyze all types of magic, but are said to bring destruction. He was once a student in a magic school, but after most of his classmates died in the war, he makes an oath to make the world a more peaceful place. In an effort to do this, he sets out to find relics from legendary heroes with the help of beautiful swordswoman Ferris Eris.

If you are looking for something like Our Last Crusade with more of an interesting world and a main character, The Legend of Legendary Heroes, despite its similarly stupid name, is actually a fantastic action fantasy series. It’s got better flashy action, better characters, infinitely better plot, and those nice hints of romance.

For Fans of War-Torn Nations

Record of Grancrest War

After a tragedy that occurred at a wedding between two parties of the two nations of Fantasia Union and Factory Alliance, the continent of Atlatan is embroiled in war once again. An alliance mage is rescued by a young warrior named Theo that carries a mysterious crest that is able to banish the corrupting chaos that is consuming the countryside, and is pulled into his epic quest.

Both series focus on two nations that are at war with each other and the heroes therein that transcend national loyalties. However, the romance in Grancrest doesn’t come between enemies.

alderamin

Alderamin on the Sky

The world is currently embroiled by war between the Katjvarna Empire and the Kiorka Republic. Within a corner of the empire, a young man prepares to take his High Grade Military Officer Exam. He is lazy and lecherous, but no one would expect his name would go down in history as a legendary military general. This is his story.

Iska and his military unit have the same sort of feel as Ikta. I mean, those names even sound the same. Regardless, each person has their own sort of quickly established personality and the plot follows them in a fantasy world at war, though Alderamin is a more straightforward fantasy story.

Akame ga Kill

Tatsumi is a naive boy from a rural village that makes the trip to the city in order to join the military and help his hometown. However, after he is rejected, he ends up joining Night Raid, a group of assassins part of a revolutionary movement to overthrow the government. From there, he must fight a brutal and increasingly bloody shadow war.

While Akame ga Kill takes itself more seriously, both shows sort of move between the action plot of a world in conflict and really silly slice of life moments. You even have someone from the enemy side in love with the hero, though its is very one-sided in Akame ga Kill. It is worth noting that Akame ga Kill has a lot more vicious death.
