Anime Series Like Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a New Starter Town?

In ancient times, those who save humanity settled outside of the infamous Last Dungeon. Their descendants have all been strong enough to survive in the area by building a community. Lloyd is one such descendant, but the weakest in the village. Hoping to grow strong, he heads to the Kingdom of Azami to enroll in their military academy. However, in this starter zone, Lloyd’s powers seem otherworldly to everyone around him.

Suppose, if you can muster, that all pretense was thrown out the window and we just named stories after the one sentence soft pitch we gave to our editors? It’s a fine anime, to be honest, but this title… Anyway, if you want more anime recommendations like Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a New Starter Town (my CTRL+V is gonna get a workout) then head on down below.

For Fans of Powerful But Dumb Main Characters

Wise Man’s Grandchild

After being hit by a truck and killed, a young man was reincarnated into a new world as a baby. He was found and raised by a legendary sage named Merlin and given the name Shin. However, while Merlin taught him his skills and Shin grew in to an extremely powerful mage, living in the forest failed to teach Shin common sense and other people skills.

Both series, despite Wise Man’s Grandchild being isekai, are both fantasy series where the main character is wonderfully powerful, but also profoundly dumb. Both lack common sense and it is the major cause of all their problems.

By the Grace of the Gods

After leading a miserable life, Ryouma Takebayashi passes away at age 39. Three deities, taking pity on him, reincarnate him into a fantasy world with an aptitude for magic, telling him to enjoy life and that they will always watch out for him. With his newfound existence, he spends it studying slimes, amassing a slime army, and learning some magic, but he misses humanity. Being persuaded to join a group of travelers, Ryouma’s new world opens up for him.

Both heroes grew up in the boonies, and due to their interests, they grew incredibly strong over that time. The big difference is that the main character in By the Grace of the Gods is better at reading social situations, but he is still just a kid sometimes.

Cautious Hero: The Hero is Overpowered But Overly Cautious

The Goddess of Listarte is the savoir of the world of Gairbrunde. In order to aid in her endeavors, she summons a hero. Seiya Ryuuguuin is indeed a powerful hero, but he is also overly cautious. His desire to stay on the safe side is a source of frustration for all.

Both series feature main characters that are very, very strong, but have a very serious mental handicap that gets in the way of them being very successful. In both series, that is the major basis for plot and comedy.

For Fans of Cheerful Fantasy

Princess Connect Re:Dive

The main character is sent to a new world. Kokoro, a girl chosen to be the guardian of her lord travels to that specific location, told that she would find her lord. While teaching him of his new world, she meets several other companions and they decide to form a Gourmet Guild in search of delicious things to eat.

Both series are fantasy anime series, but not especially oriented toward frequent action. Most of the time, the entire plot is comedic slice of life moments. However, they do have their brief moments of intensity.

Bofuri

After receiving an invitation form a friend, Kaede Honjou starts playing the VRMMO game New World Online as a character named Maple. However, in her desire to not get hurt, she puts all her stats in Vitality. This makes her move very slowly, unable to use magic, and get attacked by even the smallest creatures. However, it does allow her impenetrable defense and grants her a one-hit counter skill. And so, her adventures begin.

Because both main characters have a sort of handicap about them, neither series can really create a plot that one can take seriously, nor do they try to do that. Both have every right to try to be action fantasy series, but instead angle more towards comedy and slice of life.

Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life?

Because of her exceptional abilities, Misato Kurihara never got to live a normal life. However, after her sudden death, she is offered reincarnation and one wish. Her wish is to have average abilities so that she can live an average life. Unfortunately, reincarnated as a noble’s daughter, she still has impressive magic ability. Determined to still have her normal life, she flees to a far away hunter school and attempts to hide her abilities.

Both anime series are slice of life comedy fantasy shows about a main character that is very strong. In Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a New Starter Town, he doesn’t realize it. In Didn’t I Say to Make My Abilities Average in the Next Life, she just tries to make herself look weak in order to make friends.

For Fans of Unapologetic Fantasy Harems

The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter

Noir is the son of a minor noble. He was going to work as a librarian until the son of a higher rank noble took the position. He does have one special advantage – the use of an ability to consult a great sage. However, using it gives him terrible headaches. Discovering a way to lightly calm the headache, he consults the sage on how to move forward. The sage guides him to a secret dungeon where he meets a trapped powerful adventurer. She grants him her powers so that he can gain power and admission to a great adventurer academy.

Yes, they aired in the same season, so the similarities were more easily seen. Hidden dungeon is definitely the more lewd of the two, but in essence both are more laid-back fantasy series where the main character amasses a harem because they are very strong.

rosario-vampire-anime

Rosario + Vampire

Unable to get into any other high schools, Tsukune Aono’s parents are thrilled when Youkai Academy accepts him. However, the problem is that Youkai Academy is a high school for monsters, not humans. With being eaten by monsters being a very real possibility, Tsukune must work hard to keep his humanity a secret. However, when the most attractive girl in school and resident vampire becomes attracted to his blood, he finds an ally and perhaps a romantic interest.

Rosario + Vampire is not fantasy in the same sense as Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a New Starter Town. It is more a supernatural fantasy with its monster girls and a more traditional school setting. However, there is no denying that while the harem vibes are similar, the main character power levels are not.

death march anime

Death March to a Parallel World Rhapsody

Suzuki Ichirou is a programmer for a game company, and in order to keep up with demands, he frequently sets his work pace to “death march” in which he works for days straight with little sleep and without going home. During one of these death marches, he falls asleep and when he wakes up, he is somehow transported inside of one of his games.

Putting the fact that Death March is isekai aside, both series are fantasy series where a harem forms around the main character because he is the strongest person around them. While their personalities are are different, they are still rather oblivious.
