Get ready to strike those weird Ultraman poses, for the iconic tokusatsu superhero is about to be reborn—this time as an animated character.

It was announced that Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell series) will be teaming up with Sola Digital Arts (Blade Runner Black Out 2022 short) to make sure that the color timer of the fictional silver giant lights up again in 2019.

To be directed by Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: SAC) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed Alpha), the upcoming anime of the same name is set to be rendered in only the best 3D computer graphics, a stark contrast to its campy beginnings.

Check out Ultraman’s hype-filled official teaser:

You might be wondering why doesn’t it resemble the protagonist of the local run that our younger selves tuned into. This version is actually based on the 2011 manga sequel of the original TV SERIES, which was first aired 51 years ago.

According to the anime’s website, Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi’s ULTRAMAN sees the titular character as a “human-sized hero,” who defends the Earth from new aliens in a metallic suit. High school student Shinjiro Hayata inherits the gene of Ultraman from his father Shin Hayata to become the next-generation “Giant of Light.”
