It was officially announced at Fantasia Bunko Big Thanks Festival 2017, held at Bellesalle Akihabara in Tokyo today, October 21, that a new anime series based on Koushi Tachibana’s science fantasy light novel series Date A Live is now in the works. When and how it will be distributed is currently unclear.
The series has been published from Kadokawa/Fujimi Shobo’s Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint since March 2011, and its main series’ latest 17th volume “Kurumi Ragnarok” was released in Japan on August 19, 2017, along with the second volume of its spin-off series Date A Live Fragment: Date A Bullet. The total print run of the whole Date A Live novel series in Japan has reportedly surpassed 4 million copies.
It was adapted into TV anime series twice by Production IMS; the firs season Date A Live was aired for
12 episodes from April to June 2013, then the second season Date A Live II followed with 10 episodes
one year later. Its last anime adaptation was the feature film Date A Live: Mayuri Judgement released
in August 2015, also animated by Production IMS based on the novel author’s original story.
