With the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron, actress Scarlett Johansson, who plays the Black Widow in the Marvel superhero flick, recently revealed in an interview that filming for Hollywood’s live-action Ghost in the Shell movie will begin filming in the early part of 2016, which will be around January or February.
In the interview, the actress said
“It’s happening. It will be shooting the beginning of next year, so I think we start production January or February and it’s me and Rupert [Sanders]; and that’s all I know.”
So we may really be seeing the Hollywood version of the classic Japanese anime and manga franchise created by Masamune Shirow, who also created such classics like Appleseed. Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders will be at the helm of the project at DreamWorks with ScarJo as a lead actress.
DreamWorks executive and legendary director, Steven Spielberg (Jurassic Park, E.T., Indiana Jones) is a huge fan of the original anime movie and has wanted this project to be realized for a long time now, and with this new Hollywood adaptation of the classic manga already starting filming this year, Spielberg will really be getting what he wants soon.
And speaking of Disney and the upcoming live-action Ghost in the Shell movie, Disney’s CinemaCon presentation has announced that the movie will be released in April 14, 2017.
Here is the list of their release schedule announced during the event:
So what do you think of Scarlett Johansson possibly playing Motoko Kusanagi? Will this go the “Edge of Tomorrow” route and be a huge success, or will this go the “Dragon Ball Evolution” route and fail miserably? Only time will tell so let’s keep our fingers crossed.
