“Love Live!” Film Has Attracted 1.5 Million Audience in Japan

The Love Live! The School Idol Movie film has been seen more than 1.5 million times as of August 1, 50 days after the film opened at the box office. The film has also earned more than 2.2 billion yen (about US$17.7 million) as of August 1, surpassing the box office earnings of Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion.Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion had earned a total of 2.08 billion yen during its theatrical run in Japan when it opened in October 2013.

Love Live! The School Idol Movie had surpassed the 2 billion yen (US$16 million) mark as of July 27.

The film had topped the Japanese box office for tickets sold for its first three weeks in theaters. While the film debuted at #1 during the June 13-14 weekend in terms of earnings, it slipped to #2 just behind Mad Max: Fury Road in its second weekend. The film then moved back up to first place in terms of earnings in its third weekend.

The film will premiere in select cities in the United States on September 12. The film will also screen in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Brunei, and Indonesia.
