Netflix Revamps ULTRAMAN Into An Anime Series

If you’re a batang ’90s, you know there were a lot of addictive TV shows (mostly anime). There was Dragon Ball ZSamurai X, and  Ghost Fighter, among others. But you should be familiar with the gigantic superhero alien of ultra proportions, Ultraman.

The last time we saw him in the Japanese series, Ultraman had to leave Earth and return to his planet of M78 in the 4th galaxy with his superior. He needed to replace his depleted warning light and charge it with energy, and promised the people of Earth that he would return to keep defending our planet from sinister aliens and giant monsters.

Yet he never did return, did he? Except maybe in spin-off movies that clearly did not do the original concept and story any justice. But say no more, because Netflix has just revealed the cure for your nostalgic butts! As part of their growing anime list, Netflix announced that they will launch the new ULTRAMAN series in the spring of 2019. Since we don’t have spring here in the Philippines, that season is from March to June, fyi.

The latest adaptation will be based on the manga by Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shiguchi, and will be a direct sequel to the classic Ultraman live-action TV show. The story will follow Shinjiro Hayata, the son of the original Ultraman, Shin Hayata. It will take place several decades after Shin defeated every single enemy he had and saved our world from alien invaders. But when a new alien threat emerges, Shinjiro will discover that he inherited his father’s gifts and powers. He takes on this responsibility and becomes the new Ultraman to defend Earth.
