New Fruits Basket Anime Premieres in April

It seems like it was yesterday when Natsuki Takaya put Studio Deen on blast for butchering the Fruits Basket anime adaptation. In reality, it was 18 long years ago.

We still haven’t fully recovered from last November’s announcement that Fruits Basket is getting a new anime — but here we are. The newest issue of Monthly Newtype magazine revealed that the re-adaptation is going to air this April!

Details have been drip-feed ahead of Monthly Newtype‘s announcement. First off, TMS Entertainment is animating the series, which will be a full adaptation. This shouldn’t be too surprising due to Takaya’s grudge with Studio Deen. FLCL Progressive director Yoshihide Ibata is leading the project with Bunny Drop screenwriter Taku Kishimoto writing the scripts. Takaya is also supervising the project to make sure it follows her manga closely.

However, the first anime’s cast has been caught in the crossfire and will be replaced by new talent. Some of the new voice actors include Manaka Iwami as Tohru, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Yuki, Yuuma Uchida as Kyo, and Yuichi Nakamura as Shigure.

Are you ready for the more faithful adaptation of Fruits Basket?
