Just when people are forgetting about the fact that a live-action Pokemon movie has been green-lit, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed new details about it. According to their report, Deadpool star, Ryan Reynolds, will be part of the film as the voice of Pikachu. Yes folks, Deadpool is Pikachu!

Legendary Pictures will actually be adapting the Japan-only game, Detective Pikachu. It will also star Justice Smith and Katherine Newton. The Hollywood Reporter describes the movie’s story as:

The story is kicked into gear when Smith’s character’s father is kidnapped, forcing the teen to team up with Pikachu in order to find him. Newton is a sassy journalist who helps them on their quest.

They also reported that the movie “is said to be motion capture in nature.” They also added “Many details of the project are being kept off the grid, including the casting, which has been underway under the radar by the usually secretive Legendary.”

Universal Pictures is handling distribution of the live-action film outside Japan, while Toho will handle distribution in Japan. More details about the movie will be announced in the days to come.
