SNK Reveals that Samurai Shodown Anime and Comics are in the works!

SNK and Tencent have announced to the mobile gaming fans a new Samurai Shodown Mobile MMORPG. The Game, titled 侍魂：胧月传说, allows players to create their own character and have it trained by the series famous characters, like Haohmaru, Nakoruru, and Ukyo.

The highlight of this announcement however is not the game itself. In the press release issued by SNK China regarding the MMO, it was also silently announced that a Samurai Shodown anime and comics series is in the works. No further details on either of these project were revealed.

Samurai shodown (Samurai Spirits in Asia) was the subject of two anime adaptations and several Mangas back in the 90’s. The first anime for the infamous Samurai Shodown the Motion picture which was a very loose adaptation of the first game of the sword fighting franchise. the second anime, released in late 90’s, was an official prequel to the Samurai Shodown 64 2 game, and featured Haohmaru, Nakoruru, Shiki, Rimiruru, Galford, Asura, and briefly, Genjuro.

With the spotlight starting to shine on Samurai Shodown by SNK, it would be very surprising if we do not get a new proper entry in the series fairly soon.
