The Ancient Magus’ Bride Returns with Short Web Anime

Fans with a desire to experience more of The Ancient Magus’ Bride in animated form are in for a treat, because Wit Studio and the main cast of the 2017 – 2018 TV series have teamed up for a short web anime released in conjunction with the Japanese publication of the 11th volume of Kore Yamazaki’s fantasy manga.

The extended preview video, entitled “The Ancient Magus’ Bride Academy Edition”, focuses on Chise’s experiences as a student studying magic in a university setting. The video features direction, storyboards, layout, and key animation by Norihiro Naganuma, animation production by Wit Studio, and a theme song entitled “Sky” by JUNNA. Key members of the TV anime reprise their roles, including:

  • Atsumi Tanezaki as Chise Hatori.
  • Ryôta Takeuchi as Elias Ainsworth.
  • And Ayumu Murase as Cartaphilius.

 

The original The Ancient Magus’ Bride manga is serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Garden manga magazine, and an English language version is also available from Seven Seas Entertainment. Crunchyroll currently streams The Ancient Magus’ Bride TV anime, and describes the story of the series as follows:

Hatori Chise has lived a life full of neglect and abuse, devoid of anything resembling love. Far from the warmth of family, she has had her share of troubles and pitfalls. Just when all hope seems lost, a fateful encounter awaits her. When a man with the head of a beast, wielding strange powers, obtains her through a slave auction, Chise’s life will never be the same again. The man is a “magus,”a sorcerer of great power, who decides to free Chise from the bonds of captivity. The magus then makes a bold statement: Chise will become his apprentice–and his bride!
