WCI Arc: Luffy’s progressions compared to Gol D. Roger

It seems that the Whole Cake Island arc is reaching its finale.

At the beginning of the Whole Cake Island arc, the original plan was to go to Tottoland, save Sanji and steal the Poneglyph. All of which has now been done. I think there will still be a bit of resistance and drama but ultimately i think everyone will get away and move on to the next arc, whatever that may be.

I recall it was said that Gol D. Roger once came to Big Mom’s territory and stole the Poneglyph, just like Luffy. It was stated that ‘Roger stole it from under Big Mom’s nose’ and ‘made Big Mom look like an idiot’. I gather from this that unlike Luffy, he was able to complete his stealth mission just as Luffy had planned too.

Compare this to Luffy’s attempt which has resulted in utter chaos involving half of the Straw Hat crew creating some allies and taking on the full power of a Yonko.

I think this a hugely impressive feat – what we are seeing is essentially half of the crew going toe to toe with BM’s crew. There was a reason Roger decided to do this whole thing stealthy, I think that is because he didn’t want to risk a full on battle and a potential loss/casualties. It’s worth noting that this was many many years ago and I assume that Big Mom and her crew have grown in strength this then (although I have no proof).

I honestly believe we are seeing Luffy and his crew approaching that end goal target – No, I do not think he would defeat Roger or even an Admiral yet but I have to admit, he is getting pretty damn close.

It would have been interesting to see what would have happened if Roger’s crew had messed up the stealth mission and had a full battle with Big Mom’s crew. Had that happened the best possibility for Roger would have been that he he stole the Poneglyph and left with no casualties, which is exactly what Luffy has done. The only thing that the Straw Hats didn’t do which would have made the mission a bigger success is defeat Big Mom herself.
