Anime Series Like Hataage! Kemono Michi

Shibata Genzo is both a professional wrestler and an animal lover. One day, he is summoned to another world by a princess. She makes the mistake of asking him to rid her kingdom of these evil beasts. Instead of doing that, Genzo suplexes her and heads off to start a monster pet shop.

In a season still awash in isekai plots, it is always nice to see one that is different, or at least angled towards comedy. If you want to keep the laughs going, then piledrive yourself down below.

Do You Like Your Mother?

After finishing a random survey, Masato becomes involved in
a government scheme that transports him inside of a game. Excited to begin his
new life as an adventurer, he is thoroughly disappointed when his mother Mamako
ends up being there as well. Eventually giving in to her companionship, they
start their journey.

Both series are isekai that have been turned an odd direction purely to make people laugh. Although, Do You Like Your Mother can be uncomfortable at times with its MILF-ness.

The Hero is Overpowered But is Overly Cautious

The Goddess of Listarte is the savoir of the world of Gairbrunde. In order to aid in her endeavors, she summons a hero. Seiya Ryuuguuin is indeed a powerful hero, but he is also overly cautious. His desire to stay on the safe side is a source of frustration for all.

Both are new isekai anime series for the season and have the same sort of hook. Both series are essentially screaming “look how different I am,” while still having a lot of the same isekai tropes to them.

Konosuba

On his way back from buying a new game, Kazuma Satou died a
pathetic death. However, he awakens before the Goddess Aqua who gives him two
choices: go to heaven or reincarnate into an actual fantasy world. Naturally,
the gamer picks the fantasy world. Now Kazuma must deal with defeating an evil
demon king, useless party members, and paying living expenses.

While not quite as unique as a isekai about a guy that shuns the heroes in order to open a pet shop, Konosuba subverts isekai expectations by being a comedy about a group of adventurers that are absolutely terrible at everything.

For Fans of Fantasy Comedies

Outbreak Company

With parents that write light novels and draw eroge, Kanou
Shinichi was born to be an otaku. One day, he finds himself transported to a
fantasy world full of elves and dragons. In this world he is given a quest, not
to fight monsters, but to become a moe missionary to teach everyone on the
finer points of being an otaku.

Both series are isekai where the main character has a passion and follows that in the new world. However, Outbreak Company plays it more straight, yet maintains itself as a comedy (and unfortunately a ecchi one).

The Devil is a Part Timer

Right on the verge of taking over the world, evil Demon Lord
Satan was foiled by the hero Emilia and was forced to retreat through a
dimensional portal. He ends up in this world where he is without powers and
without money. In order to pay his way, he gets a part-timer job slinging fast
food.

Although The Devil is a Part Timer is a reverse isekai series, it is also a comedic one. Both series often focus on laughs via slice of life situations that seem absurd given the characters involved.

Zombieland Saga

For Sakura Minamoto, she started her day off normally, right
up until she skipped outside and got hit by a speeding truck. She died of
course, but 10 years later, she wakes up as… a zombie. However, her story is
just beginning as a man wants her and several other undead girls from throughout
Japan’s history to become a regional idol group to save Saga from becoming an
obscure prefecture.

Certainly the settings have nothing to do with each other, but both are about characters that get pulled into something they shouldn’t be a part of. Zombieland Saga isn’t so much an isekai series but is more so a parody on zombies. However, what links both of these series is the unexpected and abstract comedy that lands pretty well.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

After a run in with a robber, the 37-year-old Satoru is
suddenly killed. However, he finds himself able to reincarnate into a fantasy
world as a slime named Rimuru Tempest. This allows him a fresh new life of
adventure while being surrounded by a number of other unique beings.

Both series are isekai that sort of flip the script. Instead of getting involved with the heroes, the protagonists take the other side. As Slime features the main character as an “enemy creature,” you also have more exposure to fantasy creatures than your typical isekai series allows.

Gate

Japanese Self-Defense Force solider and otaku Youji Itami is
in the Ginza district of Tokyo feeding his hobby one afternoon when a gate to
another world opens and medieval soldiers flood modern day Japan. While Itami,
in conjunction with the local police, manage to save many civilian lives, his
hero status forces him to go beyond the gate with his fellow soldiers to
explore a mysterious new world filled with swords, magic, elves, and dragons.

While Gate doesn’t have quite as many fantasy creatures as Kemono Michi, the shows are similar in the fact that you learn about the world as they do. Certainly Gate is more about killing creatures, politics, and building a harem, but you are still exploring a fantasy world through uniformed eyes.
