Thanks to the Baruhren Corporation, powerful cyborg soldiers known as Extended now exist. Juuzou Inui is one such Extended with no memories before he was used for war. Now, he helps take care of Extended-caused incidents around the city. Recently, rumors of an Extended kidnapping a child have spread, and when Juuzou returns to his office, he finds the Extended there with the child in tow. With everyone seemingly out for this kid, it leads Juuzou into a mystery that threatens to unravel everything.

Both cyberpunk and hard-boiled noir go great together in No Guns Life. If you are looking for a little more like it, then head on down below.

For Fans of Transhumanism

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex

In the not so distant future, mankind has advanced to a
state where the transplant of the complete body from flesh to machine is
possible. This has blurred the lines between physical and technological worlds.
Unfortunately, criminals can also make use of this technology, which led to the
rise of Sector 9, a government agency that operates independently and deals
with this new kind of cyber crime.

No Guns Life is a lot like Batou the somewhat stoic badass in Ghost in the Shell got a show of his own. Both shows are about cyborgs that are solving mysteries and slowly unravel the truth of their world.

Texhnolyze anime

Texhnolyze

As an orphan that made his name as a street fighter, Ichise
finds his way of life crushed when an angry promoter takes an arm and a leg.
Before he dies, he is rescued by a scientist that uses him as a test subject.
With new limbs at his disposal and a new mysterious girl that can tell the
future at his side, he realizes the city is on the brink of destruction, and
only he can save it.

If you want another dark story about technology and its affect on humanity, then Texhnolyze is definitely for you. It is older and a little high-minded at times, but it crafts an interesting advanced world where humanity is no longer just flesh anymore.

For Fans of Gritty Detective Stories

gangsta anime

Gangsta

Nicholas Brown and Worick Arcangelo work as handymen,
mercenaries that will do anything for the right price. Working for the mob and
police alike, they delve into the underbelly of the city, a place that was once
haven for Twilights, people who were augmented by a special drug.

While Gangsta is less about technological advancements, you will get the same sort of feel. Essentially the main characters have the same jobs as fixers in a city that is just awash in crime and corruption.

B The Beginning

In the technologically advanced archipelago nation of
Cremona, the city is terrorized by a serial killer called Killer B. On the hunt
for this killer, the paths of many converge as the city spirals into chaos.

If you enjoyed the gritty, hard-boiled style of mystery presented in No Guns Life, then this follows the same suit. However, it doesn’t have the same level of technology in the world.

ergo proxy anime

Ergo Proxy

The domed city of Romdo is the last bastion of civilization.
Inside, humans are assisted by AutoReiv androids in their daily life. However,
when the AutoReivs start going haywire, Re-l is sent to investigate. Elsewhere,
an immigrant called Vincent Law is blamed for the virus causing the AutoReivs
to go haywire. Through circumstance, the pair of forced together and strike out
into the wasteland looking for answers.

Both series features a mystery in a technologically advanced future. However, while No Guns Life deals with cyborgs, Ergo Proxy deals with androids. However, No Guns Life delves into corruption while Ergo Proxy rises to philosophy.

For Fans Guarding Another

Karakuri Circus

One day while at his job, Katou bumps into a boy carrying a
suitcase and fleeing adults. The boy introduces himself as the new leader of
Saiga Enterprises and announces that his family is trying to kill him. Katou
decides to help and ends up fighting his pursuers, discovering that they are
humanoid puppets.

If there is one series most similar to No Guns Life, it would be Karakuri Circus. Both stories feature a main character that is pulled into a mystery full of super soldiers and the corruption that surrounds them by a random child.

dimension w anime

Dimension W

In the future, humans have discovered the fourth dimension,
or Dimension W, which is supposedly a source of infinite energy. Harnessing
this energy in coils, the New Telsa Energy corporation has now set up a
monopoly on its sale. Ex-soldier Kyouma Mabuchi is skeptical of this energy and
still drives a gas-powered car for his job to hunt down illegal coils.

Both series take place in a future of advanced technology. Furthermore, they both follow main characters that are now more skeptical ex-soldiers. However, while the main character in Dimension W is turned off of technology, the main character in No Guns Life is re-purposing his augmentations to do better.

Gungrave

Brandon Heat and Harry MacDowel grew up on the streets
together and both turned to crime in order to get by. However, when their
activities are noticed by the eyes of the expansive Millennion mafia syndicate,
the pair find themselves brought under their wings and rising through the
ranks. Things go well until one fateful day that changes it all. Years later,
Brandon Heat is brought back from the dead to fight Millennion and its new
leader, Harry MacDowel.

As about half of Gungrave is flashbacks, it is both a gritty mafia story and a futuristic action revenge story. While it does feature some sort of human augmentation similar to No Guns Life and it is a story about a person protecting another, it is on a lower technological level.
