For Fans of an Expanding World of Adventure

hunter x hunter anime

Hunter x Hunter

Twelve-year-old Gon Freecss is determined to become a world-class Hunter, a skilled individual that perform all manner of dangerous tasks, in order to find out what happened to his father.  However, Gon finds that the path to achieving his goals is more challenging than he could have ever imagined, but in order to overcome it, Gon recruits some powerful friends.

Both Tower of God and Hunter x Hunter have all the fundamentals of a shounen series, but both will probably not be countered among the hugely popular ones. The reason being is they both have a certain depth of complexity to the tournaments and battles that go on inside. Both series have battles that are bound by complex rules and show off a lot of the unique powers in an intelligent, but not necessarily a flashy way.

One Piece

One Piece

With his dying breath, legendary Pirate King Gol D. Roger let the world know about his treasure, setting in motion the Grand Age of Pirates. Among the many crews that set out to look for the legendary One Piece treasure is Monkey D. Luffy, a young man that has assembled a rag-tag crew to sail the Grand Line and hunt down One Piece.

Although both are adventure and battle anime series, you will find two other things that these series have in common. The first is that the world starts off in a small scope and you just watch it open up exponentially as the series goes on. The second is that both have very creative character designs because they don’t always keep things realistic.

attack on titan anime

Attack on Titan

Facing imminent extinction, humanity retreated behind a series of tall, thick walls to escape their most dangerous threat – massive human-like Titans with a taste for human flesh. With an enemy that eats humanity for fun rather than food, they are at constant threat. As such, it is the duty of every human to defend the species. Enter Eren Yegaer, after his village was destroyed by a Titan breach, Eren and his adopted sister Mikasa join the Survey Corps, a faction of the military that scouts and combats Titans outside the walls. After joining in the brutal war, Eren discovers a brutal secret about himself that could unravel what the world thinks they know about Titans.

What is unique about both of these series is you start off with a rather small scope and the world just kind of continually builds from there. Both series have their hooks that draw you in and make you want to uncover the mystery of that world. The longer you watch, the more insane things get, but the more you understand.

For Fans of Tower Climbing

Tower of Druaga: The Aegis of Uruk anime

Tower of Druaga

Every few years when the sky-god Anu extends his protection, the monsters in the Tower of Druaga weaken and adventurers go forth for fame and fortune, trying to reach the top. Like many adventurers, Jil is young and ready to make the push towards the top. While inexperienced in the Tower, his combat skills have the promise for him to go the distance.

Both anime series are about climbing a tower. However, Tower of God is infinitely more clever and has a better built world. Druaga has its moments of intrigue, but is much more of a straightforward sort of show.

anime series like is it wrong to try to pick up girls in a dungeon

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?

In the fantasy city of Orario, there is a massive labyrinth underneath it. For brave adventurers, glory and fortune can be found within. However, in order to tackle the challenging monsters inside, adventurers join guilds of strong gods and goddesses. However, for newbie adventurer Bell Cranel, no good guild will have him, except for Hestia, a goddess with no followers. Together they team up to grow strong and find glory.

Tower of God has certain fantasy world elements to it, but it is much more interested in setting up a mysterious world. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon is much more of a traditional fantasy world where the world itself sticks to more of those fantasy video game-esque tropes. Both shows are about characters that are much stronger than they appear trying to climb a tower to varying success.

made in the abyss anime

Made in Abyss

The Abyss is an enormous cave system and the only unexplored place in the world. No one knows how deep it goes, but generations of bold adventurers have descended into it. In the town at the edge of The Abyss, an orphan named Rico dreams of raiding, as her mother did before her. One day while exploring the murky depths, she meets a boy, who turns out to be a robot, kicking off the start of her epic adventure.

In a bit of reverse, Made in Abyss is going down where in Tower of God it is assumed that they climb the tower. Regardless, both have interesting character designs and set up an intriguing world. However, while Made in Abyss seems more childish, you learn it can throw punches like the best of them.

For Fans of Survival of the Fittest

the promised neverland anime

The Promised Neverland

Grace Fields House is a home for orphans. However, even though they have no blood families, they are all one big family. That is, until the age of twelve when they are adopted out. The kids also know that they are not allowed outside the fenced yard, but one day, two children break that rule. They then discover that the children who are “adopted” are actually subjected to something much darker.

Both series follow characters that are somewhat trapped in a place. They work to unravel the mystery of that place, but ultimately have different goals. You also find that they can be unexpectedly dark at times as well.

angel of death anime

Angels of Death

Rachel awakens to find herself trapped in the basement of an abandoned building. After wandering around, lost, dizzy, and without her memories, she happens across a man in full bandages named Zach. Together, they try to find a way to escape from their bizarre circumstance.

No, it is not because both series have a character named Rachel. Tower of God and Angels of Death both feature characters that are placed in a sort of confined place without much knowledge of how they got there or what they are supposed to do. From there on, it is a fight for discovery.

fate zero anime

Fate / Zero

With the promise of granting any wish, the Holy Grail has sparked three wars in the past, each too brutal to leave a winner. Despite this, the Einzbern family has been confidently preparing for the fourth war. To ensure their victory, they have hired the hated Magus Killer, Kiritsugu Emiya, to fight and solidify their victory.

The Fate/Stay series highlights a lot of different fighters and personalities in its fight to the death. While the end goal is quite well advertised in Fate/Stay, it is kept more mysterious in Tower of God. Regardless, you watch people struggle towards it.
