Dragon Ball Creator Reveals How Majin Buu Was Actually Created

Hey everyone! In this post, I want to talk about Majin Buu, and his origins. As you all probably know, Majin Buu was the final villain in the Buu Saga; the very last arc of Dragon Ball Z. Buu was woken up from his slumber by Babidi. Thanks to his control over Buu, Babidi was enjoying terrorizing the people on Earth. However, soon after, Buu broke free from his control.

Buu was definitely one of the strongest characters in the series when he was introduced. Finally, after lots of effort and fighting Buu was defeated. Interestingly, he was reborn as Uub, and thus the character of Buu never really died. The fat Buu was also spat out by the evil Buu, and he is one of the Z warriors now. A huge misconception in Dragon Ball was the creation of Buu.

Earlier, it was believed that Buu was created by Bibidi, and then was woken up by Babidi from his long sleep. But then, Toriyama cleared it up in an interview, and basically, he said that wasn’t the case at all. Buu has existed since the beginning of time. In the June 2014 issue of Saikyo Jump, Toriyama finally addressed whether or not Babidi created Majin Buu.

He said: “Though in the manga Kaiōshin said that Bibidi made him, the truth is that one called “Boo” was not actually created by Bibidi, but has existed since time immemorial. He cycled between rampages and long hibernation. During numerous iterations of this cycle, he absorbed the evil elements of mankind, becoming steadily more violent.”

So it turned out that “Bibbidi merely knew the means of calling Boo from out of his long slumber. Since the current Boo is a slightly different life-form due to the changes brought about when the evil Boo was expelled, it’s not known whether he’ll still go into long hibernation.”

This certainly does clear up the misconception that a lot of fans had on Buu. Or, maybe Toriyama just changed his mind as the story progressed, and he liked it better this way. Either way, I think it doesn’t make much of a difference to the story right now. But drawing out the past of a character properly is important, and thankfully, this huge stir up has been cleared now.
