It all started with a turtleneck sweater with a feature that is not very comfortable given how cold it is in Japan right now. These sweaters feature a cleavage window right in the chest, and it did not take long for people in Japan to make it into a meme, and most of these memes feature anime characters wearing the sweaters.
Japanese Image Boards and Social Media became flooded with images of several characters wearing these sweaters, and it seems like the artists have really enjoyed themselves with the new meme which has the #タートルネック
The meme even trended in twitter, so much that it made the news!
Here are a few of the images we’ve found in twitter, 2Chan and 4chan, and they range from the wacky to the sexy. A bit of a warning before you proceed though, as some of the images are a bit NSFW

Though @kuratarine thinks that Kantai Collection’s Kongou just rocks the black sweater just fine
And speaking of Anthropomorphic Battleship Girls wearing the sweater…
@yamerungo has Atago rocking the sweater just fine though…
And yeah, Marshtomp still looks confused as to what to do… (from @jaco_l)

My poor poor Waifu, why did she even get paired up with Asuza?! Khuuuu! (from @nagian)
While @tamuramallow has reminded everyone who has rocked the look before it was cool…
But then again, there will always be DC’s one and only Power Girl who has sported the look since the 1970’s
