Cells at Work! (はたらく細胞 Hataraku Saibou) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akane Shimizu. It’s an action-oriented slice of life comedy.
The anime adaption is a gem.
It features the blood cells that live in the human body, which is represented as a city. Together they fight against pathogenic microorganisms and bacteria that enter them. For example, bacteria take forms that reflect their functions such as how influenza are parasites that turn cells into zombies.
The main protagonist is a clumsy red blood cell who gets lost often.
White blood cell brutally kills foreign germs and viruses. He is actually a gentle and polite person.
Killer T Cell is always angry, he recognizes and kills any foreign material. He especially frowns on white blood cells forming friendships with non white blood cells.
Platelet is depicted as small children due to their small cell size. They reconstruct the body and heal wounds.
Helper T Cell determines strategy for dealing with foreign invaders. He’s the commander of the Killer T Cells.
I would definitely learn if my biology class is taught like this.
