Rebuild of Evangelion

Evangelion fans brace for another release delay as creator is rumored to be making Ultraman movie

It’s tough being a Neon Genesis Evangelion fan, especially if you are looking forward to the final Rebuild of Evangelion film.

Rebuild of Evangelion

The fourth and final film has been in pre-production for seven years, but fans received a glimmer of hope from Studio Khara. They announced that the film would debut in 2020, which was followed by a brief teaser trailer. Fan anticipation then reached a fever pitch as photos of creator Hideaki Anno and the film’s voice cast at a ceremony circulated. Finally, the production was beginning!

And it may come to a screeching halt this winter according to Nikkan Taishu. An industry insider reportedly told the outlet that Anno will work on a live-action Ultraman film. If true, this would kill the Evangelion fan.

Ultraman

Anno has never been shy about sharing his love for the Ultraman franchise. The tokusatsu series, alongside Godzilla, heavily influenced Evangelion and it’s not outside the realm of possibility that Anno would leap at the opportunity. After all, he did pause Evangelion to direct Shin Godzilla in 2016.

According to Nikkan Taishu’s source, the Ultraman producers want filming to begin this winter, which would undoubtedly delay Rebuild of Evangelion‘s finale again. Does Anno choose to contribute to his childhood love or push to end Rebuild of Evangelion in 2020?

Once again, fans will have to wait to see what Anno decides to do.
